Apple Macintosh OS 8-9 Modem Dialer Setup
How to use this guide.
To use this guide you should be familiar with your
Macintosh computer and know how to copy files from your
floppy disk to your hard drive and know which version of
the Macintosh operating system you are using . You should
know how to use control panels and whether your Mac is
using the MacTCP control panel or the TCP/IP control
panel. You should also already have your modem installed.
It is recommended that you have at least 10MB of free
space on your hard drive and 16MB of physical RAM before
starting this installation. You MUST have the MacTCP
control panel or the TCP/IP control panel installed
BEFORE you begin this installation.
Macintosh System Requirements: To connect to the
internet you will need a Macintosh computer with 68030
processor or newer, 16MB RAM (as with all RAM
considerations, more is better) . Macintosh Operating
System 7.1 or newer, the MacTCP or TCP/IP control panel,
15MB free hard drive space, 14,400 or faster Modem, color
monitor.
Macintosh Set Up Instructions: Mac OS8 and above
(recommended for 68040 or PowerPC Macintosh
Computers)
Macintosh Operating System version 8.0 comes with
everything you need to establish a PPP graphical
connection to the internet. Launch the internet setup
assistant, by opening your hard-drive icon, opening the
assistants folder and double clicking "Internet Setup
Assistant" proceed through the set up dialogue where you
will: Fill in the following values:
1. Primary DNS number: 209.188.112.3
2. Secondary DNS number: 63.81.160.11
3. ISP Phone Number: 751-9590 or 737-0000
4. Incoming (POP3) Mail Server: mail.newmex.com

(the user ID you chose when you signed up, in all
lowercase)
7. Login and Email Password: ******
(the password you chose when you signed up, in all
lowercase)
8. Email Address: yourloginid@newmex.com

Mac OS8 will place a "Browse the Internet" and an "Email"
icon on your desktop. See page three if you would like to
use Eudora Lite for email instead of Microsoft Outlook
Express, which comes preinstalled on your Mac. Choose PPP
from the Apple/Control Panels menu to dial up and
establish your connection to the internet.
TaosNet's Multiple Phone Numbers - TaosNet provides
dialup service using two different access servers. These
dial-up servers enable us to help you get a more stable
connection and possibly better connect speeds. These
servers have different manufacturers such that dialing
751-9590 connects x2 56K hardware and the 737-0000
connects 56K flex hardware. Both adhere to the V.90
standard. Depending on your brand of modem and your phone
line conditions, you may or may not see different
performance levels between these two numbers. We
recommend trying both of our dial-up numbers to determine
which one will connect better.

In order to view and change your name server addresses
(DNS addresses) using Mac OS 8 or above, you will need to
do the following:
