WHAT'S
AVAILABLE (Location,
location, location...)
Delivering the kind of service that meets your needs is our goal. What
we can offer you to meet those needs depends mostly on your location.
Our broadband accounts also offer the option of your own Wi-Fi setup
(Wireless Local Area Network, or WLAN) so you can connect without
wires.
Access Types
Fixed
Wireless High Speed is often available as an option to
customers who
wish
to have high speed broadband access in locations where DSL is not an
option, who prefer the better
performance of lower latency and bursting capabilities of the TaosNet
fixed wireless network, or sometimes for customers who do not wish to
have a
relationship with the local phone company.
Bursting capability allows TaosNet to deliver our Fixed Wireless
high speed
to customers with speeds much higher than rated for short periods
making most Web pages load even faster than expected! Some TaosNet
customers
have noted that our wireless feels faster than DSL,
which does not have bursting capability.
DSL,
or
Digital Subscriber Line, is a phone line based broadband service that
is
available within about three miles of a phone company central office or
remote terminal (DSLAM). These remote terminals are operated
by the phone company and are located throughout Taos, in Red River,
Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, Arroyo Seco, Questa, and elsewhere throughout
the county and most
of the state. We can provide DSL service anywhere the phone company has
these DSLAMs.
Dial-up
access is available anywhere there is a dial tone with local access to
Taos. Long distance dialup is also a possibility but may incur
additional charges from your phone company. Our plans are very
economical since they are based on usage - one of our associates can
help you pick the appropriate level if you wish. We have banks of
different
types of 56k modems to ensure you the highest speeds possible for your
connection, location, and computer.
Not-So-Fine Print
Each Broadband Access
Account includes a free dial-up modem connection (for backup use on
broadband
accounts) to the Internet and one
email account. Email addresses may use any of our domains: taosnet.com,
newmex.com, or taosnm.com
These rates are for residential or small
business networks at one location and up to 4 computers. Business rates
listed are for networks with a single access point. Please contact
us for quotes on larger office networks or more complicated network
setups as these may incur additional charges.
Rates DO NOT include servers on client side of our broadband services.
Servers require pre-approval of
TaosNet's System Administrator and may incur additional fees. Please
contact us for evaluation based on bandwidth demands.
File
sharing, via programs such as BitTorrent, Limewire, BearShare and/or
any similar peer-to-peer methods, is classified as operating a server.
Such use
to distribute copyrighted material may be
subject to prosecution under Federal and International Copyright Law.
Please be aware that TaosNet must cooperate with law enforcement
officials and procedures when required.
Contract
Cancellation Fee Policy:
If an initial contract must be
cancelled we require payment of half (50%) of the remaining contract
duration value and return of equipment if applicable.
Broadband Access Comparison:
Please inquire about our $10 monthly discount
for Web Hosting when bundled with a high speed access account.

DSL
INTERNET ACCESS
Definition
This technology uses existing telephone wiring to deliver
high-speed data services to homes and businesses, giving always-on
Internet access that does not tie up the phone line. Requires the
purchase or rental of a DSL modem for your home or office to connect.
|
FIXED WIRELESS HIGH-SPEED
INTERNET ACCESS
Definition
This technology uses high-frequency radio waves rather than
wires to communicate between nodes. It makes broadband access available
in areas where DSL is unavailable, and in remote areas without any
phone lines. Requires an outdoor antenna and router to connect.
|
Speed
DSL users have a choice of speeds ranging from 256 Kbps to 5 Mbps
asynchronous (faster downloads than uploads). This
is about 4.5 to 90 times faster than a standard 56 Kbps dial-up modem.
There is no download bursting capability with DSL service.
|
Speed
Wireless customers have a choice of download speeds from 256 Kbps to 3 Mbps
throughtout most of our service area. TaosNet now has WiMax available in the Taos area that is capable of up to 12 Mbps. Installations with more than 4
computers or customers wishing to use any servers are subject to business rates.
Most of our lower speed rates have Bursting capability that allows TaosNet
to deliver on our Fixed Wireless Network speeds
to customers much higher than rated for short periods
making most Web pages load even faster than expected! Some TaosNet
customers
have noted that our wireless feels faster than DSL,
which does not have bursting capability.

Generally, users within three miles of a phone company central office
or

terminal equipped with DSL equipment can have DSL access.
Remote
DSL terminals, also known as DSLAMs, are always being added - please be
aware that if a phone company
telemarketer can offer you DSL, so can TaosNet.
We have DSL customers
throughout most of New Mexico and look forward to serving you, too.
